Botox and Fillers

** Botox and Fillers are services we offer exclusively at our Vestavia Dental and North River Dental locations.

BOTOX (botulinum toxin type A) is an injectable treatment used to treat moderate to severe frown lines and crow’s feet. Made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, in small, diluted amounts this toxin can be directly injected into specific facial muscle. The Botox injection works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles, reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause frown lines. This results in the relaxing and softening of the wrinkles.

Botox and fillers are injectable cosmetic treatments that are commonly used to improve the appearance of the face. Botox is a purified protein that is injected into facial muscles to relax them and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Fillers are injectable substances that are used to add volume to the skin and smooth out wrinkles and lines.

From a dental perspective, Botox and fillers can be used to improve the appearance of the lips, jawline, and around the mouth. They can also be used to treat issues such as gummy smiles and TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder). Botox and fillers are generally considered to be safe and effective treatments when administered by a trained and experienced provider.

The entire BOTOX Cosmetic injection procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Although no anesthesia is necessary, the doctor may apply a cold pack to the injection site to minimize discomfort. A very fine needle is used to inject Botox into specific muscles. The treatment requires no downtime. Results of the Botox treatment can be seen within 3 to 7 days. Common side effects following injection may include temporary bruising, tenderness, minor inflammation, and redness. In rare instances, some patients may experience headache or temporary eyelid drooping. These side effects resolve themselves within a week or so. Results of the Botox treatment are evident within 3 to 7 days.
